Prof. Mehdi Hasan, prof. emeritus of King George Medical College of Lucknow, was felicitated for his life-long services to medicine. An extension lecture was arranged in the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) of AMU for this purpose. He has earlier served as the principal of the JNMC and spent 40 years in the teaching profession and published over 125 research papers in prestigious journals in India and abroad in addition to five books. He received a number of national and international awards.

AMU IN PARLIAMENT
Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the Lok Sabha in the current session when Samajwadi Party members led by its supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav accused the government of trying to close down Aligarh Muslim University by dubbing it as the hub of ISI activities.
The charges however drew instant noisy protest by BJP members, who said there was no such conspiracy. They however added that shielding ISI elements in Muslim institution will not be allowed. This angered Samajwadi members and Mulayam Singh Yadav said, ' This is actually a conspiracy by the BJP led government to punish all Muslims. Samajwadi members of Parliament said that the UP government at the behest of the NDA government was trying to close down the AMU.
'There was an order to close down AMU and had the Samajwadi Party not taken up the issue strongly enough, the government would have succeeded in its design of shutting the prestigious university' Yadav said.
