UP to set up Madrasa Board
The UP cabinet approved a draft ordinance to set up the Madrasa Board with the intention of bringing about qualitative changes in administration examination and teachings in Madrasas. It has decided to dissolve the Arabic Persian Board which so far was supervising these institutions. Muslim intelligentsia and educationists have however, not taken it kindly and have termed it as a decision taken in haste.
According to the cabinet decision the Madrasa Board will have a full time chairman whereas the director of Minority Welfare Deptt. will be its vice chairman. The chairman will be a well known educationist. The state legislature will nominate one Sunni and one Shia as its members and two members from Sunni Muslim educational institution and one from Shia Muslim educational institution would be included as its members. The draft ordinance also provides for the nomination of one science or Tib(Unani system of medicines)teacher and Principal of Government Oriental College Rampur in the Board.
Muslim educationists are of the opinion that though improvements are needed in education system but it should in no way affect the freedom minorities educational institutions have been provided in our Constitution.Dr. Rasheed Anwar general Secretary of Madrasa Management Association says that we have all along been demanding an act for Madrasas but the real issue is the nature of the act. If any act affects our independence in any manner then it is not acceptable to us
Dr. Ishtiaq Husain Quraishi of Deeni Talimi Council opines that the govt should not take any policy decision on eve of election, particularly decision on education should not be taken in haste. Maulana Mohd Shakir of Madrasa Nazmia is of the opinion that govt is not interested in the welfare of Madrasas. It has its own vested interest and takes decision accordingly. Khwaja Mohd Yunus who runs a chain of English medium schools says that it is an attack on religious institutions .The govt has malafide intentions and wants to convert Madrasas into govt educational institutions .He warns of legal action if Madrasas independence is jeoparadised through this Board.
Maulana Abdul Mannan said that earlier Rajnath Singh govt had announced to provide financial help to these madrasas and now it is trying to take them over which will be resisted tooth and nail. q |
