American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin AFMI has awarded Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait, former MP and President of Indian National League with the prestigious Pride of India Award.
Qazi Mujahidul Islam Qasmi, president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board was honoured with Maulana Ali Miyan Nadwi award while
Sayyid Hamid, former VC of Aligarh Muslim University and the present Chancellor of Hamdard University was presented Sir Syed Award.
These awards were presented to the above mentioned dignitaries in AFMI’s two-day International Educational Conference hosted jointly with Haji Ghulam Muhammad Azad Education Trust and Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society Pune on 29 and 30 December.
A ANWAR made a near clean sweep of the national awards of the Doordarshan won by the Thiruvananthapuram Kendra. They include the awards for the best documentary, the best programme on wildlife and environment and the best editor. He got all the three awards for his work "Hamlet of mountain monarch" which won for KK Ashok Kumar the best cinematographer also. "My soil…my passion" directed by Anwar was adjudged as the best musical programme
Prominent Urdu short-story writer Nayyar Masud’s name has been announced for Sahitya Academy Award. The announcement has been made for his collection of short-stories Taoos-e-Chaman Ki Mina. A meeting of the executive board of the Academy was held in Delhi in which 22 books have been named for the award.
Prominent poetess and dramatist Sajida Zaidi and famous poet Gulzar Dehlwi were conferred with prestigious Ghalib Award. Other awardees include well-known critic Prof Shamim Hanafi, Prof Wahhab Ashrafi and famous poet Umar Ansari. The awards were presented by Prof Nazir Ahmad, vice chairman of Ghalib Institute on the occasion of a 2-day international seminar on Altaf Hussain Hali, the disciple of Mirza Asadullah Ghalib held at Ghalib Institute, New Delhi. The seminar was attended by prominent personalities from Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and other countries besides India. Prof Shahid Hasan Mehdi, VC of Jamia Millia Islamia inaugurated the seminar.
Adil Nadeem Faridi, a BDS final year student of Aligarh Muslim University’s Dental College has been honoured with Best Scientific Paper award for his paper presented in students session of 26th UP State Dental Conference held in Kanpur. Farooqui presented his paper on Oral Manifestation of AIDS: A Case Report, for which he received the award. The paper was prepared under the guidance of Dr SS Ahmad, a reader of the Dental College.
