Restoration of internal autonomy in Kashmir demanded
Srinagar: In a significant statement, acting President of National Conference, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, declared that Jammu & Kashmir’s accession to India is conditional and the Central government should immediately restore internal autonomy to the state. He said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir had agreed to accede to India under certain conditions and Indian rulers had also agreed that all affairs of the state except defence, currency and communications will be under the local government. He said that the promises made to us at the time of acceding to India should be immediately fulfilled and our internal autonomy should be restored to us.
He welcomed President Musharraf’s 12 January speech and said that this will be helpful in reducing tension between India and Pakistan but he warned that there can be no peace in the subcontinent unless India and Pakistan resume their talks to solve all their problems, including Kashmir, permanently. He further said that the people of all the three regions of the state will not accept any imposed solution because only the people of the state have the right to decide their future.
Strongly criticizing All Party Hurriyat Conference leaders, he accused them of leading a royal life who have accumulated huge wealth. He also said that Hurriyat leaders are responsible for the death of more than 70,000 people in the state. q |
