Demolition of minority community’s houses in Agra
Agra: Many large houses belonging to Muslims have been totally demolished and several others belonging to them have partially been demolished recently by military authorities in Taj Ganj area of Agra. Nearly, there were also about fifty huts inhabited by poor people most of which were also burnt and destroyed by military authorities. The reason given by these people was that these houses and huts were illegally built on land belonging to military whereas the fact is that this land belongs to Waqf Board and not to military.
The military authorities blocked the entry and exit points by parking its vehicles and allowed only one hour to the residents to vacate their houses after which they began their demolition operation. One Akram Ahmad had recently built his new house at a cost of Rs 20 lakhs which was also raised to the ground. The residents had been residing there for thirty or even more years.
The UP Peace Committee and Congress strongly condemned this action and accused the BJP government of harassing and terrorising Muslims by illegal deploying military in civilian areas and later to use them as their vote banks.
The President of Congress Minority Cell, Sayed Ibrahim Zaidi said that the land in question is registered as a graveyard of Sunni Central Board of Waqfs. Even now there are at least 200 graves there. These houses were built on this very land but military wrongly thinks that these houses were built on its land. q |
