Babri leaders to build ‘mosque’
By Obaid Nasir, Lucknow

All India Babri Masjid Action Committee which had earlier threatened to stop the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya by force if Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) will start construction in violation of court order, has now decided to step up its activities for the reconstruction of Babri Masjid even though the case is still in the court. Following the footstep of VHP the committee’s convenor Mr. Zafaryab Jilani who is also an advocate pleading the Babri Masjid case in the High court has announced the committee intention to start the ground work for the reconstruction of Masjid and for this three sites in Ayodhya town have been identified where cutting of stone and engraving work may start shortly

On the other hand the 11 member Muslim Personal Law board Committee which has been authorized by the board to take any decision in this case has shown ignorance about the reconstruction of Masjid. This correspondent tried to contact Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, Board’s vice president and a member of said 11-member committee but he was not available for the comment as he had gone to Bombay, but Maulana Sajjad Nomani Personal Law board’ executive member told MG that no such decision has been taken by the board, it is Mr. Jilani’s own decision or may be the decision of All India Babri Masjid Action Committee, but Muslim Personal Law Board has nothing to do with this pre mature announcement. He also said that in board’s forthcoming meeting the matter may also be discussed as what prompted Mr. Jilani to make such an announcement.

Mr. Nehaluddin President of All India Muslim Forum was also surprised at this sudden announcement.Talking to MG he said that only Personal Law Board is entitled to take any decision in this sensitive issue, and it should ensure that no premature and childish announcements are made by any person in this regard. He said that the Board should immediately clarify its position in this connection otherwise a wrong message will go,and the goodwill among nationalist forces that the board has generated by its recent announcement about dialogue with government. will be watered away.

Mr. Zafaryab Jilani has however, clarified that he has no intention to bypass the court order in this connection but the government’s silence over the attempts of VHP to start the construction of Ram Temple at the disputed site could also not be overlooked.. He told that a high level team of All India Babri Masjid Action Committee has inspected three sites in Ayodhya to set up a work shop for cutting of stones and engraving of Qur'an’s verses on them. According to informed sources these sites are Madrasa and residence of Hafiz Iqbal Sb. Situated near the disputed site and the residence of Haji Mahboob, Action Committee’s local leader and a school near his residence. Interestingly Action Committee’s search for artisans and expert in engraving Persian and Arabic scripts on stones ended in Rajasthan where the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has got the stone and pillars cut for the proposed Ram Temple

The Babri Masjid Action Committee has also decided to mount pressure on secular parties to move a resolution in the Lok Sabha urging the Supreme Court for the speedy disposal of the case.

Bhartiya Janta Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other pro-temple organizations have laughed away this announcement. Terming this as ‘hollow and childish,’ one senior BJP leader reminded this correspondent Jilani and Azam duo’s earlier announcement that Muslim volunteers will be present in Tat Shah Mosque of Faizabad and take on Hindu youths if any attempt is made to harm the Babri structure (mosque). Perhaps he wanted to say ‘Yeh bazoo mere aazmaye hue hain.’

Sangh parivar’s attempt to hijack Hindu religion through its militant wings, VHP and Bajrang Dal, have been challenged by seers and other religious leaders led by Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth, Swami Swaroopanandji Saraswati. To snatch away the emotional card through which the Sangh Parivar has spread its tentacles among the masses, i.e. the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, a new trust has been formed which has been named as Ramalaya Trust. This was disclosed by Mahant Gyan Das of Hanuman Garhi, Ayodhya, who is also a member of the new trust.

It may be noted that almost all the genuine religious leaders have boycotted the Dharama Sansad organized by the VHP during the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad last January. These seers and religious leaders are opposed to the politicizing of the Ram Mandir issue and want to construct it in a civilized manner. The Akharha Parishad, which is the supreme body of the sadhus of different Hindu sects, has not only boycotted the Dharam Sansad but has also sharply criticized the RSS-BJP-VHP trio for communalizing and politicizing the issue. The All India Akharha Parishad and Bharat Sadhu Samaj have made it clear that they will have nothing to do with the said Dharama Sansad of the VHP.

Mahant Gyan Das said that the non-political forum to construct the temple will be headed by Shankaracharya of Dwarkapeeth and it includes all the four other Shankaracharyas and important Hindu religious leaders. It also enjoys the support of the all-powerful Akharha Parishad including the Nirmohi Akharha which is the owner of 2.79 acres land in the Ram Janam Bhoom complex and is the main litigant in the Ram Janam Bhoomi/Babri Masjid case. He further disclosed that Swami Swaroopanandji Saraswati had launched the All India Ramalaya Trust in 1993 and it will be the parent body of the Nirmohi Akharha. He added that the proposed Ram temple will be constructed under the guidance of genuine religious leaders with the contribution of the public. He said that a large number of Sadhus and Mahants in Ayodhya are opposed to the VHP/BJP line and the proposed Ramalaya Trust will channelize their cooperation to construct a grand Ram temple in a civilized and lawful manner.

He said that the model of the proposed temple will be put in Amawan temple campus near the acquired land. It may be noted that the model of the VHP which was displayed in Kumbh Mela has been put in Karsevakpuram very closed to the Amawan temple. Mahant Gyan Das said that the proposed temple will be 350 feet high with gold plated domes and its architecture will be in conformity to ancient Ram Temple in Cambodia. It will accommodate ten thousand devotees at a time.

Bharat Sadhu Samaj General Secretary Swami Harinarayananandji has bitterly criticized RSS VHP for spreading hatred and ill-will among Hindus and Muslims in the name of Ramjanam Bhoom and Babri Masjid. He charged the BJP-VHP for politicizing the issue keeping in mind the forthcoming assembly elections in UP. He said that the VHP and the BJP should leave the matter to Hindu and Muslim religious leaders and they will sort it out amicably..
