Mandir construction started with consecration of bricks
By Obaid Nasir

Defying all norms of a civilized behaviour, challenging the State authority, rule of law and rejecting the Prime Ministerís appeal and Home Minister's warning with contempt the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has taken the very first step of Ram Temple construction. On 17th February the day of Basant Panchami when as per Hindu mythology goddess of learning and knowledge (Saraswati) is worshipped, the senior leaders of temple movement including VHP supremo Ashok Singhal and Ram Janam Bhoom Trust chairman Paramhans Ram Chandra Das started the Ram Nam Jaap Yagna (recital of the name of Lord Rama) and worshipped the bricks to consecrate them .These bricks are lying in the Karsevak Puram for the last 10 years. According to Ashok Singhal with this worship these bricks have now become sacred and will be used for the construction of temple.

As per programme the karsevaks started reaching Ayodhya from February 24 and are staying in Karsevak Puram and will continue to recite Ram nam jap (recital of Ramís name) till May 20. By 15th March more than one million Karsevaks will reach Ayodhya and the transportation of carved stones from Karsevakpuram to Shilanyas (Foundation) site will start and will be continued uninterrupted till a grand temple is erected encompassing the disputed site of Babri Masjid where the Garbh Grah (Sanctum sanctorum) of the proposed temple will be built. It may be remembered that the foundation stone of the proposed temple was laid in 1989 about two hundred meters away from Babri Masjid. As per the government claim this site is undisputed. However Babri Masjid Action Committee has all along been maintaining that the foundation site too belongs to Sunni Wakf Board.

The defiant Vishwa Hindu Parishad is not mincing words and with provocative tone expressing its determination to start the construction of temple from 15th March, no matter what the court or any other democratic institution says.Senior VHP leader Acharya Giriraj Kishore has said that he is not worried if riots broke out as Hindus are no more a weak community and can face any one including military and police. On 25th Feb a group of Karsevaks ransacked the Rudauli railway station in Faizabad distt.

Not only Prime Minister and BJP national President but even Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani have warned VHP of legal actions if it took law in its hands. The UP government has deployed a huge number of police force keeping in mind the threat posed by the VHP.

The VHP has rejected all these warnings with contempt . Acharya Giriraj Kishore, vice president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad has termed prime Minister Vajpayee as "helpless". He says that" the government still can solve the issue if it has the political will and there is time till march 12 after which we will start moving construction material to site from March 15th". Presenting a bold face he said "at the most the police may open fire on us and they will find us ready to face any consequence."

Acharya Giriraj Kishore said that the government is only the custodian and not the owner of undisputed land. He demanded that the said land be returned to Ram Janam Bhoom Trust without any precondition or ifs and buts. He said that the Prime Minister is helpless in this matter due to National Democratic Alliance(NDA) and only NDA leaders could help him to come out of this helplessness. He said that we (VHP) are not party in any court and my land does not come under the jurisdiction of any court,we will go to jail, struggle but will try to accomplish the work.

In Ayodhya the Vishwa Hindu Parishad media cell incharge Sharad Sharma has claimed that more than fifty thousand devotees are to be gathered at Ayodhya to join mahayagya which will be the beginning of the construction process. After that twenty thousand people will join the yagya every day scheduled to coincide with the VHP plan to start construction from March 15. The stone carving at the workshop has been expedited and ground floor work has been completed ,he informed.

The Frankensteinís monster that the BJP created in its lust for power is bent upon eating the party. All the years of their reckless politics have now come home to roost. The time has now come where BJP has to prove its allegiance either to the Indian Parliament or the religious Parliament (Dharam Sansad) that had fixed the date for starting the construction of Ram Temple in Kumbh Mela at Allahabad last year. It had also to prove whether it respects the tricolour of India or saffron flag of Hindutva. It has to prove its allegiance to Indian Constitution or "We and our nationhood definedí.

The BJP is in a catch 22 situation now. If it shows its allegiance to Constitution of India it has to stop the proposed lawlessness of Vishwa Hindu Parishad even by using the coercive authority of the state .If it fails in discharging its constitutional obligations not only it will lose its face of a serious party ready to govern a vast and diverse country like India but will have to sacrifice its central government also as TDP of Chandrababu Naidu, Lok Janshakti Party of Ram Vilas Paswan and DMK of Karunanidhi have already warned against it and other partners will follow suit. Supreme Court will also not be a mute spectator. The coming days are again going to be testing time for the motherland.

The most heartening and reassuring factor is that the people of India have now understood their bluff and are not buying their utterances. The flop show of sant yatra from Ayodhya to Delhi, poor turn out in their public meetings in Lucknow, Kanpur and other places including national capital and their defeat in the recent assembly elections are pointers of public mood that reasserts Hindustaniyat.
