National Environmental Science Academy has conferred Best Scientist award to
Prof Muhammad Iqbal of Jamia Hamdard in recognition of his valuable research in the field of environmental and botanical science. Prof Iqbal had been recently honoured with gold medal by Academy of Plant Science, India. Earlier too he has received several awards, both national and international.
Muhammad Kakkad has been selected for the Journalist award, instituted by the Sharja police department for the outstanding journalists working in UAE. Muhammad is the only Indian figured in the list of awardees this year. Muhammad, working with the Jeddah based Malayalam News daily, is selected for the award for his investigative reporting.
Muhammad stepped into the field of journalism as a reporter of the Malayala Manorama daily in 1988; later he moved to UAE to become an announcer in Radio Asia, Ras Al Khaima and continued reporting from UAE for Manorama till he joined Malayalam News on its inception in 1998.
Dr Javed Masarrat, head of the Department of Agricultural Micro-Biology, Aligarh Muslim University has been conferred Youth Scientist award for the year 2002 for his outstanding services in the field of Micro-Biology. The award was presented to him during the 4th Indian Agricultural Scientists and Farmers Congress at Chaudhry Charan Singh University, Meerut. His several research articles have been published in important journals.
Prof Saiyed Jafar Reza, former professor of Urdu and Head of the Department of Allahabad University has been selected for KK Birla Foundation Fellowship for higher studies programme in the field of Comparative Indian Literature. Prof Reza will take up a study on Islam in Indian literatures for National Resurgence. The duration of the Fellowship is one year and it carries a tax-free stipend of Rs 14,000 per month and Rs 40,000 as contingency grant.
Ghulam Mohiuddin Gowhar, the Kashmiri writer, well versed in Urdu, English, Persian and Hindi, was posthumously awarded with Sahitya Akademi award for his contribution to the development of the Kashmiri language through his verse Rikhah. Abdul Vaheed Kamal received the award for his efforts to bring harmony among different religions while Naiyer Masud was chosen for the award, whose work Taoos-e-Chaman Ki Maina was chosen the best among Urdu literary pieces.
The awards were presented to them during the Festive of Letters in New Delhi.
First shift teacher of Zakir Nagar Primary School, New Delhi, Arifa Khatoon has been honoured with Best Teacher award in a prestigious zonal award ceremony by Deputy Commissioner. The award consists of a plaque and a shawl. Arifa Khatoon has been rendering teaching services since 1975.
Literary figure Qamar Tanveer has been honoured with Khurja Ratan award by Adabi Ekta Council and Hindi Sahitya Kar Sabha. The award was presented to him by former central minister Sarwar Hussain Khan. While applauding the literary services of Qamar Tanveer he said that Qamar had established the literary identity of district Buland Shahar in the entire country by his art and personality.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Dr Najma Heptullah was honoured with a shawl on the occasion of the release of Gyanpeeth awardee Dr KC Narayan Reddy’s collection of Urdu poems Behta Huwa Naghma on 12 February at Jubilee Hall, Hyderabad.
