In view of the good performance of former joint trustee of Hyderabad City Congress (I) Agha Dost Ali has been nominated secretary of HCCI’s Minorities Department. This was done by Syed Ali Shahrayar, president of HCCI’s Minorities Department. Youth leader and social activist, Dost Ali has been active in social services while holding posts in Nagarpalika Panchayat Raj, City Congress and City Youth Congress and has made a name for himself. He is an active member of Congress (I).

MY Khan, chairman and chief executive officer of Jammu and Kashmir Bank has been granted extension for another three years by the Reserve Bank of India. This has been done for his outstanding performance as the J&K Bank chairman. There has been nine fold increase in the net profit of the Bank to the tune of Rs 168 crores for the year 2000-2001 as against Rs 18.39 crores for the year 1995-96. There has been a large increase in the Bank’s branches also. MY Khan is the recipient of several prestigious awards including Udyog Ratn award, Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini award and Best Banker of the year 2001 award, Pride of India award etc.

Top English Cricket Authorities have asked captain Nasser Hussain not to take a hasty decision in retiring from captaincy after next world cup. Chief executive of England and Wales Cricket Board Tim Lamb while talking to local newspersons said that it will in no way be good for the team if Nasser gives up team’s captaincy after world cup. He further said that Nasser is the best captain of England who had led the team at a time when it was in a pitiable condition and by performing his duties admirably, made it an excellent team. It will not be just if he relinquishes his captaincy after world cup, he added.

Former chairman of Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI), SH Khan is likely to be the new chairman of Larsen and Toubro. Among the four candidates, the vote seemed to have gone to former IDBI chairman and the present Care chairman SH Khan. This was learnt after the head of institutions meeting in Mumbai decided that L&T will have a non-executive chairman.

Former Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani will not be able to participate in the World Muslim League Conference which will be held in Makkah in May due to passport. Geelani is a member of the World Muslim League and has been invited to the 5-day conference. Hurriyat Conference spokesman said that earlier too Geelani could not participate in the Leagues’ conference because the government did not give him passport. Geelani could not go for Haj this year because he was denied traveling documents.

Beauty expert Shahnaz Hussain who started her business some 30 years ago, has carved a name for herself in India and abroad and has won accolades for her herbal products. She describes beauty as a valued physical, mental, emotional and spiritual quality. She says that external beauty lies in internal good health which a person can maintain by regular meditation and physical exercise. In answer to a question she said that to safeguard the herbal products, companies manufacturing them should be inspected and licensed, so that fake products are checked. She believes that time management is of utmost importance. She plans to set up an Ayurvedic Health Resort in Dhauj, Haryana and extend the Shahnaz Hussain Ayurvedic Centres and Shahnaz Hussain Forever Beautiful Shops through franchise system.

Being encouraged by the struggling role of the well known film actor Amir Khan in the film Lagaan in which he faced and defeated the British in cricket to be exempted from land revenue, farmers in Harda, Madhya Pradesh have appealed the actor to help them in their movement against five fold increase in land revenue. The farmers have sent him a letter full of signatures asking him to help them in their movement against district panchayat. They have requested him to visit the place and give them moral support.
