Two new degree colleges in Amroha
Amroha: Two new degree colleges will
become functional in Amroha from the forthcoming academic year, i.e. from
1 July 2001. Both these colleges are minority institutions whose
construction and office works are being done on war footing.
City’s known social worker and exporter, Muhammad Nafees Abbas,i had
laid the foundation of a girls degree college in the name of his wife,
Nayab Abbasi, about ten years ago. At that time some people ignored it on
the ground that it was motivated by political reasons. Even today the city
has only one such college, Jagdish Sharan Hindu Degree College, a
co-educational institute. At the time of admissions students face lots of
difficulties. Those who fail to get admission have to go to Muradabad,
Rampur and other cities. Keeping all these things in mind Muhammad Nafees
Abbasi dreamt of giving the people of Amroha a degree college which will
materialize next July. In addition to five buildings, provision for all
possible facilities has also been made. In February an inspection team
from MJP Roohelkhand University came here and inspected, in addition to
the college buildings, all the facilities pertaining to the new subjects
to be offered by the college.
After the inspection the team called a meeting in the college office and
expressed its satisfaction. College chairman Nafees Abbasi stated that
excluding the cost of land, the estimated expenditure will be around Rs 10
million. The building where classes will be held for which government
permission has been sought is ready. Only the approval of UP Government is
awaited which is expected shortly. The managing committee is actively
pursuing the case for obtaining approval for teaching of additional
subjects.
Another college, Babu Iftekhar Degree College, which is under construction
behind Idgah, is almost ready. Inspections have already been completed for
teaching of four subjects. The report of the inspection team will shortly
be submitted to the Roohelkhand University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Zahid
Hussain Zaidi who has expressed his satisfaction. For teaching of
Geography, inspection had also been carried out by Jamia Millia
Islamia’s Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad in Feb 2001 who has expressed his
satisfaction. Further, the administration is taking necessary steps for
seeking permission for teaching Hindi, economics and social science
subjects in the college. It is expected that in the next academic year
i.e. 2001-2002 starting from 1.7.01, teaching of seven subjects will
commence in this college. Since disputes commonly arise for the posts of
chairman, manager, secretary etc. in most of the minority institutions,
important office bearers of these two minority colleges are not taking any
chances which may create any problems or disputes regarding higher posts
in future.
Whereas intellectuals have been included in the management of Nafees
Abbasi Degree College, former MLA, Haji Mohammad Hayat, Akhtar Nabi
Qureshi, Babu Moin Qureshi etc have been included in the management of B.I.
Qureshi Degree College. Babu Iftekhar Qureshi himself is the chairman. It
is worth mentioning here that no donation from any where has been
collected for any of the two degree colleges , the total cost of which is
to the tune of at least Rs 20 millions. q |
