ASSAM ELECTORAL ROLLS

As many as 1,44,26,221 voters have been enrolled in the Assam in the Assam electoral rolls published this year on January 30, But 3,70,000 voters who have been categorized as doubtful citizens during summary revision of electoral rolls in 1998 will not be noted that almost all the voters marked as doubtful citizens are Muslims. However, no fresh addition has been made to the doubtful voters' list during the preparation of electoral rolls for the coming Assembly election.

It is to be noted that two years have elapsed since date of marking the doubtful voters, but neither they have been declared as foreigners nor their voting right has been returned after proper verification of their claims of citizenship. Thus the Damocles' sword is kept hanging on their heads. This has been a matter of serious concern for the people of Assam. q
