Kannada book on introduction to Qur’an
Shimoga: A proper reading of the holy
Qur'an can dispel many of the wrong notions about Islam, MP Prof I G
Sanadi said. He was speaking at a book release programme organized by
Asakti at Karnataka Sangha on 1 April.
Prof Sanadi said that Qur'an revealed the true nature of Islam as a
humanist religion which does not encourage fanaticism or intolerance
against other religions.
It also provides guidance for living as responsible member of society. He
said that every Muslim would oppose the barbarous act of the Taliban of
destroying the Buddha statues in Afghanistan.
Like many other religions, Islam is opposed in principle to idol worship
but does not support such heinous act.
Prof Sanadi released a book on introduction to Qur'an, written by Prof M R
Gajendraghad, former vice chancellor of Kuvempu University. Explaining the
objectives of his book, Prof Gajendraghad said that it aimed at teaching
the pronunciation of Qur'an in the original Arabic.
He said that his book was for the majority of Muslims who know Kannada but
not Arabic and Urdu. The book also introduces some essential insights of
the holy book.
Chairman of the Department of English, Kuvempu University Prof Rajendra
Chennai released the translation of the rubaiyat of the famous Urdu poet
Amjad Hyderabadi, made by Mr Asadulla Baig and Dr Shah Madar.
Speaking on the occasion, he said Urdu language and literature were a
valuable part of the Indian literary tradition and that Urdu poetry was
marked by a humanist concern, responding to all aspects of the human
condition.
Presiding over the programme, industrialist and honorary president of
Asakti, H Ibrahim, emphasized the need for spreading communal harmony
through the understanding of all religious and cultural traditions. q |
