Bangalore Muslim girls come together
By Aftab H Kola, Bangalore
In an effort to bring Bangalore-based
young and talented Muslim women on one platform and to utilize their
latent talents in useful ways, an organization called ‘Young Women’s
Muslim Association, Bangalore’ has taken shape.
Non-existence of any such fora for these young women in a happening city
like Bangalore prompted a few like-minded committed girls to come together
and take a decision to establish an association that aims at the over-all
development of Muslim womenfolk. The Association aims to bring an
awareness of human rights and women’s rights among the women, initiate
steps towards uplifting of young helpless and hapless, to harness the
potentials of young girls, work for the promotion of secularism and
communal harmony and to engage in community service.
At a function organized on 18 March at Feroze’s Shaadi Mahal, Bangalore,
Dr Fatima Taneem, the founder-president of YWMA, called upon the
participants to work towards achieving the association’s goals. Guest
speaker Dr Ata’ath, a prominent da’wah activist, stressed the
importance of da’wah-related activities in college campuses. Another
speaker, Mrs. Tazzayyun Omar, profiled her organization the ‘Humane
Touch’. Presiding over the function Mrs Farouque Kaiser of Bazme Niswan
gave a clarion call to the participants to take up community service so
that the pressing needs and issues of the community may be addressed.
