A Career in Development and Social Welfare
St. Xavier's Non-Formal Education Society (SXNFES) has initiated an innovative education programme called Postgraduate Programme in Development Management (PPDM) to train persons interested in a career in the field of development/social work either in the voluntary, government, or corporate sectors, since last four years. The PPDM is a unique endeavour of SXNFES, an organisation with long years of experience in the field of rural development programmes as well as of conducting development based courses with a firm footing in its own grassroot experience.
The course is innovative as it is the only course of its kind which prepares persons to assume strategic positions in the development sector. The objectives and contents of the postgraduate course offered are naturally very different from the objectives and contents of courses offered by the universities and management institutions in India. The complexity of functions and the vast range of issues facing the development sector demand a high and diverse level of competencies.
The 1 year PPDM course includes courses like Economic, Social and Cultural Issues in Development, Development Strategies and Policies which will provide an integral understanding of the process of development with specific reference to India. The course generally begins in the first week of July every year. So far there have been 4 batches which have undergone the course (43 students).
Complete details of the programme can be obtained from The Programme Coordinator - PPDM, St. Xavier's Non Formal Education Society, St Xavier's College Campus, Ahmedabad (or please refer Milli Gazette, 1-15 April,2002).
