Protests rock Allahabad

An unprecedented bandh was observed in Allahabad over the arrest of three clerics Maulana Obaidullah, Maulana Waliullah and Maulana Wasiullah for their alleged act of harbouring dreaded terrorists of Jaishe Mohammad recently killed by STF in Lucknow. Muslims of the city claim that the police has acted in partial manner as the three brothers are most respected and law abiding citizen and their said involvement with any terrorist organization is nothing but the figment of imagination of communal forces and saffronized administration.

The bandh was a great success in the entire city but the Muslim dominated areas of Kareli,Roshan Bagh Noorullah Road,Chowk, Nakkhas Kohna, Sasta Bazar, Bakhshi Bazar, Sultanpur Bhava, Akbarpur, Mirza Ghalib Road, Atala etc wore a deserted look and even pan biri shops and tea stalls were closed. The bandh call was given by almost all major political parties and social organizations and was joined by Hindus whole heartedly. This not only assuaged the hurt feelings of Muslims but also strengthened their bond of friendship and good neighbourliness. The police tried its best to create panic and police jeeps and trucks full of PAC jawans were running here and there aimlessly but the Muslims kept their cool and foiled the saffron brigade and administration plan of repeating Kanpur. It was Friday and the saner elements of the community were extra alert to see that nothing untoward happens. Their efforts succeeded and the bandh passed of peacefully.

Later a delegation consisting of representatives from all political parties and social organizations gave a memorandum to the President of India through the District Magistrate. The delegation was accompanied by more than 1000 people who were standing in DMís office peacefully. The memorandum demanded immediate release of all the three clerics, restoration of old name of Allahabad. Police raid on Jamiatul Salehat, a girls Madarsa situated in Kareli area of the city was also condemned.
