Muslim Nomads pressurized to convert
|Rampur: President of the All-India
Muslim Banjara Federation, Mahmooduz-Zafar Rahmani has appealed to the
President and the Prime Minister of India to intervene against the
cruelties of the government of Gujarat on the Muslim ‘banjaras’
(gypsies) of the state.
He said that ever since BJP government has taken over in Gujarat, churches
and Christians themselves are being attacked and they are being compelled
to change their religion. In the same way the Sangh Parivar has started
harassing Muslim banjaras (nomads) and they are being forced to change
their religion. Their lands are being grabbed and they are being
pressurized to change their names. He has requested in his letters to the
President and the Prime Minister to immediately intervene in these matters
and impress upon the Gujarat government the need to change their attitude
and give all the legal rights to the Muslim banjaras which are available
to Hindus there.
Mahmooduz Zafar Rahmani, former chairman of Tanda Municipal Board, said
that when Muslim banjaras narrated their tales of woes in the Lok Adalat
of Chanchal town of Gujarat’s Dang district, the district collector
expressed his helplessness but said that if they become Hindus, he can
give all their rights!.
Rahmani said that the Gujarat government probably does not realize that
this will endanger the peace and integrity of the country.
