|Mumbai’s Communalism Combat has brought out a superb special issue on the on-going genocide in Gujarat.
Titled ‘Genocide Gujarat 2002’ it represents painstaking efforts to collate information from all possible sources like eyewitness reports, official and police statements, and covers almost everything about the carnage including the communal role of the bureaucracy, victimisation of upright officers, state ministers’ direct participation in leading mobs, destruction of Muslim businesses and complete economic decimation, role of regional media in fanning the communal fire, and above all includes pictures of the carnage.
The most important part of the issue is the chapter on ‘Genocide’ wherein Gujarat pogroms have been thoroughly studied. Relevant statistics and proofs have been thoroughly quoted. The contents include Ayodhya build-up, Godhra inferno and the fallout, call to arms, religious and cultural desecration, attacks on the media and pamphleteering which helps contextualise the events. Communalism Combat editors Javed Anand and Teesta Setalvad have done a commendable job and deserve the thanks of the whole nation. The special issue is priced at Rs 50 in India
which is a very small price for the wealth of information it contains. Communalism Combat may be directly ordered from the following address: Post Box No. 28253, Juhu Post Office, Juhu, Mumbai-400049; e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. Website:
