Keep VHP out: Seer told in Ayodhya
Ayodhya: All sections of people in Ayodhya have told the Shankaracharya of Kanchi Peeth that there was no place for the VHP in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janambhoomi dispute. Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati who visited Ayodhya recently was told in a clear tone by local Hindus and Muslims alike to keep the VHP at a distance if there is a serious will to find a solution to the Masjid-Mandir tangle. Nine Muslim elders and twenty mahants and priests met him when he visited the city. The seer was in the city to prepare the ground for an out of court settlement.
The seer was involved in the deliberation with both Hindu and Muslim leaders on Ayodhya issue before the Supreme Court stopped the stone donation yagna in the disputed area in Ayodhya. He had held talks with All India Muslim Personal Law Board as well as the VHP and Bajrang Dal besides the government. The Muslim Personal Law Board later rejected his proposal for being not clear.
In Ayodhya the local Hindu and Muslim leaders welcomed the seer saying that no one had tried any time in the past to seek their views on the issue. 'The solution to the tangle can only be solved at local level' the seer accepted. He also accepted that the VHP had no locus standi to participate in talks for a solution. 'The Ram Janambhoomi Nyas is the real forum' he admitted.
Shankaracharya also claimed in Ayodhya that the Muslim Personal Law Board had not rejected his proposal on Ayodhya issue and was still under active consideration of the Board. 'My formula has not been rejected by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board or any other Muslim organization. It still stands and is very much under their consideration' he claimed.
Later the seer visited New Delhi and met the prime minister. He is believed to have conveyed the message he brought from Ayodhya to the prime minister.
