‘Centre too is responsible for Gujarat riots’: VP Singh
New Delhi : These are protesters days in Delhi. Numerous demonstrations have been held in the city condemning the Gujarat violence. In one such rally thousands of people filled Ram Lila Ground in New Delhi on 30 April protesting against the atrocities on Muslims being committed by the Narender Modi government in Gujarat. The protest march was organized by the former Union minister Arif Muhammad Khan who has recently left BSP after it allied with the BJP in UP to form the government. Beating the heat, the marchers filled roads from Ram Lila ground in Old Delhi to Jantar Mantar near Parliament House where it concluded.
Calling on to the masses former prime minister VP Singh asked the people to boycott even those organizations which are seen helping the BJP. He said that the country never faced such troubled times as it is facing today and added that the demand to remove Modi from chief minister's post is insignificant. It is time that the government at the centre is removed. He asked the people to start a campaign to remove this government.
The former prime minister also said that the planned attacks on Muslims in Gujarat by Sangh Parivar are posing a major challenge for the country and it is dangerous for the very existence of the nation. He asked Vajpayee as to what sacrifice he has made for the nation. He further said that the people who never sacrificed anything for the country are claiming to be the greatest nationalists. He said that if the Muslims destruction is justified by presenting action, reaction theory it will prompt others to interfere in our internal affairs.
Ubaidullah Khan Azmi while addressing the rally said that the prime minister has tarnished his image by siding with Modi. He added that international community has every right to interfere in the government-sponsored pogrom in Gujarat. Azmi while attacking Advani demanded that he should return to his home country Pakistan.
Muhammad Mahir, member of Rajasthan Assembly who recently resigned from the BSP said that forming government with communalists is against my principles. He added that first he is a Muslim and only then the member of any party. He also asked the people to come forward and remove Vajpayee government.
Arya Swamj leader Swami Agniwesh described the terrible conditions in relief camps in the state and said that they are living in inhuman condition. He added that Vajpayee has been brought to the stage to kill Muslim and destroy them. Former MP M Afzal said that the Sangh has inflicted more terror on Muslims than Nazis who targeted Jews. Former union minister Saifuddin Soz also severely criticized Sangh and BJP policies.
Others who addressed and attended the rally included Dalit leader Udit Raj, Shueb Iqbal, Dr Masood, Shafiqur Rahman Barq, Shabana Azmi, Syed Shahabuddin, Rashid Masood and Arif Muhammad Khan.
Another rally was taken out by school students from several schools in Delhi on the same day. The school which participated in the rally included Mother’s International, St. Mary’s, Laxman Public School, Ramjas, Amity International and Kendriya Vidyalya (JNU). The students were carrying banner like, ‘What will happen if communalism spreads further’, ‘What will happen if secularism dies’. q |
