Mubarakpur riots

‘Shias and Sunnis are both sects of same religion Islam, though they have some differences in belief and practices. They should be tolerant to each other and should not fight with each other’ observed two judge bench of Allahabad High Court comprising Justice Markandey Katju and Justice RB Misra while quashing the National Security Act (NSA) against Mr Abdullah of Azamgarh who was detained under this act for his alleged involvement in Shia Sunni riot in Azamgarh.

In this landmark judgement the court observed that the dharam (religion) of modern age is secularism and only secularism can keep our country united.

To meet the challenges faced by the country the people must be united and tolerant to each other and must not allow themselves to be divided on caste and religion, the court observed. The only way this country can remain united and progress is to give equal respect to all communities and lingual and ethnic groups.
