Believe it or not!
RSS paper, Jang plan essay contest!
The following news
appeared in the Delhi edition of the Asian Age (30 June 2001):
New Delhi, June 29: ‘Paanch din, chaar raatein Pakistan mein chhutti manaiye
(Spend five days and four nights in Pakistan),’ announced the RSS
mouthpiece, Panchajanya.
The RSS mouthpiece and Pakistan daily Jang have joined hands to organize a
competition of 500-word essays on ‘what should be the agenda for the
forthcoming Vajpayee-Musharraf talks. The contest was being held by the
hardline RSS mouthpiece and conservative Jang as a confidence-building
measure between the two countries before the summit. The last date for
submitting entries has been set for July 4.
While the winner of the first prize from the Indian side would be flown to
Pakistan for a sightseeing trip to Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad along with
spouse by the Panchajanya, the winners from the other side of the border
would be flown to India by Jang. The winners from the Pakistan side will be
Panchajanya’s guest and will tour Delhi, Agra and Mumbai. The RSS mouthpiece
will provide five star accommodation, an air-conditioned car and a guide to
the winners.
As a precautionary measure, the winners will visit both India and Pakistan
before the summit. However, the contest also includes a rider. It has been
stated that ‘the decision to change the nature of awards would depend on the
international circumstances after the summit. The decision to change the
nature of awards will be taken by an independent panel, which will select
the award-winning essays.’ Panchajanya editor Tarun Vijay said complications
could arise if Pakistan refused to grant visas.
MG: For the uninitiated, the Jang Group is the same media group with
which Jain TV had some professional relationship as a result its owner Dr JK
Jain was dubbed as ‘ISI agent’ and his channel has almost been snuffed out
a-la East West Airlines, then the country’s no. 1 private airline, which was
killed in a similar fashion without need to prove the charges against the
organization in a court of law. q |
