Muslims, Dalits being targeted by Sangh Parivar: SIF
New Delhi: The Save India Front (SIF), a body of Dalits, Muslims and weaker section of the society has accused the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh and its sister organisations for indulging in anti Muslim-Dalit activities. It said that after the pogrom of Muslims in Gujarat, the Sangh Parivar is now targeting the dalits of the country.
Recently several members of the Lord Buddha Club, who were also the members of the All India Confederation of SC/ST Oragnisations, headed by Mr Udit Raj, who converted thousands of Dalits into Buddhism last year, were brutally attacked and beaten up by the police in their headquarters in New Delhi in the wee hours of June 21. Many of them sustained serious injuries, including fracture in arms and leg. The grievously injured include R L Singh, editor 'Voice of Buddha' a magazine published by the Club.
Talking to this correspondent, Udit Raj said the police beat up the staff of the Buddha Club after forcibly breaking open door of their Bengali Market office damaging furniture and office equipment. He alleged that the "brutal police attack" on the members of Buddha Club was "political conspiracy," aimed at curtailing the Confederation's growing popularity among Dalits and Muslims. Though the SIF has submitted memorandum to the higher police officials, 'National Human Rights Commission' (NHRC) and the 'Schedule Caste Schedule Tribe Commission' on the incident of June 21 and wanted action against the guilty policemen who tortured the Club members, no action has been taken yet. The SIF also sent memorandum to Home Minister LK Advani, under whose jurisdiction the Delhi police comes.
Raj alleged that Dalits and Muslims were being victimized at the behest of Sangh Parivar. As example of victimization, he cited the Gujarat violence against the Muslims and the beating of the activists of the Confederation and Lord Buddha Club members.
Raj, who is also the convenor of the SIF, threatened that if the harassment against Muslims and Dalits continues, thousands of activists of SIF would take to streets. "We will organise rally as we did at the Ram Lila ground recently. We want the government to understand the problems of Dalits and Muslims, and desist from acting on behalf of the Sangh Parivar", he said . The 'Jamiat-Ulema-I-Hind, another constituent of the SIF too came down heavily on the government for its alleged oppressive policies.
It said that the SIF has become big movement in the country and fighting for the cause of Dalits, Muslim and other oppressed classes.
The chief of Jamiat, Maulana Asad Madni said the attack on the headquarters of Udit Raj is a political conspiracy and the handiwork of the same forces, which attacked Muslims in Gujarat. "Now they are targeting the Dalits." On May 2 Jamiat Ulema had organised a huge rally of Dalits and Muslims in Delhi
"The intention of the attack is to harass the workers of these organisations so that they may not strengthen in their movement," Madni contended. The Jamiat chief said that the Sangh Parivar is trying to promote two nation theory by dividing Hindus and Muslims. To fight this threat, he said, Muslim, Dalits and other weaker sections have to be united.
