Deoband excommunicates believers in violence

Deoband: In a historic decision, Darul Uloom, Deoband declared that all those persons belonging to madrasas and religious institutions of Pakistan or any other part of the world indulging in promotion of terrorism against India are outside the scope of Darul Uloom Deoband’s ideals.

The Darul Uloom clearly said on 19 June that elements promoting or abetting violence and terrorism against Islamic teachings cannot be Deobandis and this institution has nothing to do with such people or institutions. Darul Uloom Deoband took this hard decision in view of the fact that many institutions or persons belonging to madrasas of Kashmir and Pakistan are indulging in aggressive activities against India in the name of ‘Deobandism’. This was announced by Maulana Marghoobur Rahman, rector of Darul Uloom Deoband.

In this connection USA wants to specially target madrasas of Pakistan. There are many madrasas in Pakistan and some other countries of the world also which, motivated by the reliability, goodwill and prestige of Darul Uloom, Deoband all over the world and its method of education, have adopted Deoband’s educational syllabus i.e. Nizami syllabus for their own institutions. They are also impressed by the way in which Darul Uloom Deoband has been presenting true picture of Islam and its teachings such as emphasis on patriotism, rights and privileges of neighbours, avoidance of killing or harming of innocent persons and anti-social activities, leading a pious and righteous life etc. In order to mould their educational system on these lines those foreign seminaries try to associate themselves with Deobandi school of thought but in practical field they adopt un-Islamic ways either because of unscrupulous motives or because of local or political compulsions. This in any case does affect the image of Deoband whose system of education has produced crusaders of freedom who sacrificed their lives and properties for the sake of their country and took active part in brining about national unity. q
