Islamic University in the making

Zeeshan HidayatiNew Delhi: Work is in progress for the establishment of a modern Islamic University in the suburbs of Delhi and it is expected that it will come into existence within a year or two. It will be named Imamia Islamic University and will work under New Delhi’s Safinatul Hidaya Trust. The chairman of the Trust, Hujjatul Islam Zeeshan Hidayati said that this university will function under the concept of unifying the religious and temporal education. Maulana Hidayati added that hundreds of years ago Islamic madrasas functioned alongwith religious and worldly education and sciences. These very madrasas produced and gave to the world great scientists like Abu Ali Sina, Jabir Ibn Hayyan, Kindi and Dameezi in the fields of medicine, chemistry, botany, zoology etc. But when religious and worldly affairs were separated, the process of the birth of such eminent personalities among Muslims also came to an end. He said that the biggest conspiracy hatched by the British in the Sub-continent against Muslims was that they separated religious education from temporal education and sciences. The destructive consequences are being faced by Muslims even today.

He said that the Trust’s educational institution, Jamiatus Saqlain, is already functioning under the plan of assimilating the religious and modern education and the proposed Imamia Islamic University will also run likewise. In the English-medium schools run by the Jamia in Khuraiji, education upto the senior secondary level is being imparted in accordance with the CBSE syllabus but Arabic education is compulsory and the results this year, as in previous years, were very good. The Trust is also running a similar school in Jarcha Sadat near Dadri in the national capital region of Delhi. Another school is functioning on the same lines near Kashmiri Gate under the name of Hawza-e-Ilmia.

As regards the proposed university, he said that rules and regulations and other formalities are being completed. An extensive tract of land has already been acquired near Jarcha Sadat which is about 45 kilometers away from Delhi. It is expected that by the end of this year, government approval may be obtained and thereafter the remaining work will be started. The entire plan of the university is ready. There will be fifteen faculties like Al Zahra Faculty, Murtada Faculty and sub-faculties for different sciences and disciplines. A large research centre will be created and boys and girls hostels will also be built.
