Bashiruddin Babukhan’s wake-up call to AIMPLB
|This refers to the letter of Bashiruddin Babukhan published in The Milli Gazette dated 16-31 July 2002. I fully agree with the views expressed by Brother Bashiruddin, with some reservations. The rigid views of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) are not for the benefit of Muslims. Why is it so interested on the purdah, why not on the scourge of dowry ? Why is it not instructing the Muslims to give share in the property of the father to Muslim women? Why is it not showing interest on the all round development of the Indian Muslim community? Why is it supporting the views of Muslim men? So it is being termed by some people as ALL INDIA MALE PRIVILEGING LAW BOARD. Why is it not coming forward to the rescue of so many helpless -- the mothers and sisters of Muslim community in India. If it is interested only in purdah and the age of marriage for a Muslim girl, what is the use of this Board for the community? Why the institutions of this kind spend lakhs of rupees on conducting conferences? Why is it not concentrating on so many problems the Muslim community is presently facing? If it wants to limit itself to the Shariah only, then what is the use of this Board for the community and country? I wonder it is still being called a representative of the Indian Muslim community. There are people who do not accept all the views of this Board. Even there are some persons who are arguing that Shariah is not a divine law. There has been an argument on this subject for the last so many years, whether Shariah is a Divine or man-made law. If it is Divine law no one will question its authority. If it is man-made law, every point shall be questioned on the basis of rationality. I request to all who are interested in the welfare of Muslim community and the country to think over on the issues raised by Mr. Babukhan of Andhra Pradesh.
