BBC program on Islamophobia
|London (IINA): BBC Television has aired
a program on growing Islamophobia in the West, creating fear among the
public about Islam and Muslims. "This is a negative phenomenon in the
Western society," the presenter of the program said. "Islam is a
religion that calls for peace and peaceful coexistence of Muslims with
other communities," he added.
The program introduced an Arab Muslim youth, named Muhammad, who stays in
the United States, and described him as a victim of Islamophobia. He was
accused of taking part in the Oklahoma bombing.
The youth said the police treated him rudely when they arrested him as a
suspect after the bombing. "It was horrible. They arrested me while I
was staying in my house with my family. While investigators were
questioning my wife and children, a helicopter was hovering above my
house," he told the BBC.
The program included a discussion by members of Islamic organizations in
Britain on the best ways to confront the phenomenon of Islamophobia.
"The best way to change the situation is to use Muslim heroes and
famous personalities to propagate Islam as they can impress
Westerners," a British expert pointed out.
