Obituaries: 16-30 September 2002

A leading High Court lawyer and former member of Legislative Council Jammu & Kashmir MOHAMMAD SADIQ MALIK of Darhal, Rajouri district of Kashmir died recently in Batra Hospital of Delhi. He had been ill for a long time. He was 58 and is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters. A law graduate from Aligarh Muslim University, Sadiq had a long inning in politics. He contested elections five times from Darhal constituency but could not win any time. Though he could not win, he contributed a lot in the field of education and development besides setting up some organisations for the uplift of the people. He joined National Conference in 1996 and was nominated to state legislative council in 1997 for four years.

Macky Ali, son of veteran film comedian Mehmood and younger brother of playback singer Lucky Ali, died of cardiac arrest at the age of 35. Macky, affected by polio since birth, had starred in film "Kunwara Baap", made by his father, who drew a lot from Macky's life story and struggle during the making of the film. He also made an appearance in the music video album "Yaro sab dua karo" and subsequently came out with his own album "Shayad".
