Urdu Book Review in crisis
Urdu Book Review, an important periodical of Urdu world, has just completed seven years of publication. Published from Delhi, it attained a distinguished place but, as common with Muslim periodicals, it is struggling for survival so much so that its issues for September and October 2002 are yet to see the light.
It goes to the credit of Urdu Book Review that no other publication of its kind exists in Urdu anywhere in the world. The periodical carried articles and reviews of Urdu and English books, lists of research papers in various universities in Urdu, information about new books published from time to time, indices of articles published in Indian and Pakistani journals and magazines, valuable write-ups about the progress and development of Urdu, literary and community personalities etc.
Though the journal carved a niche for itself in Urdu journalism, the publishers find it hard to continue. Urdu has millions of lovers who love to see others making sacrifices for their language. They prefer to read free copies or not read at all. Most Muslim journals and magazines are dying because their fake lovers do not believe in buying these publications and shed crocodiles tears for the plight of their language and media.
In case you are interested in reviving this journal, here is Urdu Book Review’s address:
