The theses of DR JAWIAD ALI, a senior lecturer at the Department of Bio-chemistry, Aligarh Muslim University and research scholar MISS RANA NOOR have been selected for award for the best research paper at the 6th World Multi Conference on Systematics Cybernetics Informatics (SCI-2007) held recently at Orlando in Florida, USA. The duo have been invited to hold Free Radical Bio-chemistry Enzyme Technology session, present their theses and preside over the meeting. Their joint thesis on Oxygen derived Free Radicals which was included in the session has been selected for best paper award by the observer group of scientists of world fame.
MS SIDDIQUI of Municipal Council Co-education Secondary School Lodhi Estate New Delhi was recently selected for Palika Teacher Award by New Delhi Municipal Corporation for excellence in the field of education.
CD Muhammad Koya Award was conferred on noted judge VR KRISHNA AIYAR. Kerala Chief Minister AK Antony presented the award to Krishna Aiyar on September 28 in a function held in Kochi. The award has been instituted in the memory of late Kerala Chief Minster and Muslim League leader, CH Muhammad Koya who died on September 28, 1983. Minister for Industry, PK Kanhali Kutty presided over the meeting. Other ministers present on the occasion included Cheer Kalam Abdulland and Prof. KV Thomas.
In recognition of quality research and publication in the field of Development and Structural Botany, the Indian Botanical Society recently conferred Prof. V Puri Gold Medal on PROF. MUHAMMAD IQBAL, Head of the Department of Botany, Jamia Hamdard Delhi. Prof. Iqbal has investigated development aspects of trees in relation to their age and hormonal status, and has analysed the effects of seasonal climatic changes and environmental pollution on processes of radical growth and wood formation in some tropical trees of India. Early this year, he received the Best Scientist Award (2001) of the National Environmental Science Academy and the APSI Honour Gold Medal (2001) of the Academy of Plant Sciences, India.
Friendship Forum of India presented Bharat Excellence Award to DR SHAMS BADAYUNI in recognition of his literary services. The award consisting of a gold medal, a silver trophy and a plaque was recently presented to him in a seminar held in Delhi. The award has earlier been presented to Justice Fatima Bibi, Khurshid Alam Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pran and Sunit Dutt.
Columnist of Greater Kashmir Syeda Afshana has been awarded fellowship by the Centre of International Studies Cambridge University, London. The fellowhip has also earned her the membership of Sydney Sussex College
Cambridge. She is the first Kashmiri woman to get this fellowship and was the only person selected from among many Indian candidates. Syeda Afshana is lecturer at Media Education Research Centre of Kashmir University.
