Proud of occupation, gangsterism
|Well you have another reader from the Middle East, namely me and I am a proud Israeli.
After reading your September 30 edition, let me add my two-penny's worth - by contributing some particulars, which somehow slipped your attention -Israeli occupation cause of all Mideast problems Ms. Mary Robinson is well known anti-Israeli and is not beyond her to stretch and even alter facts to fit her "weltanschauung" e.g. something rabidly anti Israeli (Remember her outcry on the so called "Jenin Massacre" which never was - according to UN Report).
Regarding her statement that "the Israeli occupation is the cause of all the problems in the Middle East", let me mention that the Arab nations didn't require an "Israeli occupation" -The Egyptian intervention in Yemen (Arabs against Arabs); The bloody suppression in Homs/Syria (Assad the Elder against the Islamic Brotherhood flattening a city and killing 20,000 Syrian citizens); Iraq's 8 years war with Iran, resulting more than one million deaths (including use of gas by the Iraqi troops retaking the Fao peninsula Operation Karbala); Nor the bloody occupation of Kuwait, and the list is long, long . In short - Ms. Robinson does not know the subject, so forcefully stated by her on the Egyptian TV on July 31, 2002. Why the Israeli gangsterism? Have you forgotten the reasons for the 1967 War? The Egyptian's request to the UN Observers to be withdrawn, and closing the seas to our southern port of Eilat, or the Syrians trying to divert the water from the Jordan River? War is war and if you loose it - the winner takes all.
By the way, those territories never belonged to a Palestinian State (the Gaza strip was under control of Egypt, while Judea, Samaria and the Old City of Jerusalem by the Arab Legion - both occupied in 1948 war). Your never quoted Rumsfeld (and others saying) stating that President Arafat (lately calling himself General Arafat) is the problem and not the solution. Hope that you will publish this letter - if not for the love of Israel, than for the sake of good journalism.
