Maharashtra Minorities Commission
Mumbai: In a meeting convened by
Maharashtra Minorities Commission to discuss 'communal harmony and
abolition of communalism' in which scholars, Ulama, intellectuals and
members of prominent Muslim organisations of Mumbai were invited, its
chairman Ameen Khandwani said that the commission can not be effective and
durable unless it enjoys legal status. Addressing the meeting he also said
that injustice and discrimination against minorities continues.
He further said that riots in a pre-planned manner on the excuses of
Afghanistan and festivals are being started in small villages of
Maharashtra in order to weaken the minorities economically. The
instigators and mischief makers are being arrested but they are freed on
bail who later on become heroes. This situation is extremely dangerous.
President of Islamic Chambers of Commerce, Shahabuddin Sheikh welcomed the
organisation of this meeting and said that hotel owners in Mumbai are
boycotting the products and beverages of USA and Britain but the media did
not give any importance to it. He accused Muslim MLAs of being insensitive
to what is going on in the country and state. Muslims were first branded
as ISI agents, then Dawood's agents and now members of Al Qa'eda, he said.
Our leaders must now pick up courage and tell the government that enough
is enough. Now we are compelled to reconsider whether we should cooperate
with government or not, he said. q |
