Shaukat Ali Ansari, freedom fighter, died in
Dawoodnagar, Aurangabad district of Bihar, on 27 Oct at the ripe age of 100. He
was buried in Dawoodnagar. He is survived by five sons and two daughters.
Maulana Syed Ahmad Hashmi, former chairman of Delhi Waqf Board and member of
Rajya Sabha, died on 4 November at the age of 70. He devoted his life for the
service of the nation and the community. He spent his early life in Calcutta.
Later he came to Darul Uloom Deoband for further studies. After completion of
Fazilah he was appointed as a teacher in Madrasa Nida-e-Islam, Calcutta. He was
always concerned with the welfare of the community. He served as general
secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i- Hind for several years sine 1988 and was twice
nominated to the Rajya Sabha. In 1998 he left it to found Milli Jamiat Ulama. He
was a founder member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and served as vice
president of the All India Majlis-e Mushawarat.
He remained active in politics and community service his entire life. Several
Muslim scholars expressed heart-felt sorrow over his demise and called it a
great loss for the community. Condolence meetings are being held at several
places.
