RSS, Christian leaders meet
Aluva (Kerala): Leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and church leaders met at Aluva near Kochi on 27 Nov. This meeting was the fifth in the series of talks held at the national level. The leaders of both groups expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the meeting.
While the RSS team was led by Mr K S Sudarshan, sarsangachalak of the RSS, the Christian team consisted of most of the prominent leaders of the church including Archbishop Dr Cyril Mar Baselios, president Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI). The previous meetings were held in New Delhi, Nagpur and Chennai.
The representatives of the Jacobite Syrian Church, the Marthoma Syrian Church, the Church of South India, the Anglican Church of India, the Evangelical Church of India, the Pentecostal Church of God, the Assemblies of God, the New India Bible Church, the World Missionary Evangelism, the Sharon Church, the Church of God, the Seventh Day Adventists, The Salvation Army, the Brethren Church, the Bible Society of India and the YMCA were among the groups of Christians who took part in the talks. Significantly, a group of Christians under the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KCBC) did not attend the meeting. The Christian leaders tried to underplay the absence of KCBC by saying that CBCI being a national body, the non-participation of the Keralite wing did not matter. Mr P Parameshwar, director of Bharateeya Vichara Kendra, Mr P Ramachandran, president of VHP, Kerala, Mr Kummonam Rajasekharan, organising secretary of VHP, Kerala, Mr A R Mohanan, state secretary of RSS were among those who represented the RSS side.
The tradition in Kerala is different as there was religious harmony in the State. Archbishop Dr Cyril Mar Baselios, told reporters that the meeting was a goodwill mission. ‘It is a very good start’, he said. q |
