Ignorance about Islam

The two letters published in the letters’ column of The Milli Gazette of 1-15 November 2003, were heartbreaking. Swatasiddha Majumdar and Jorge Gandhao, who wrote letters criticizing Islam were simply ignorant of and about Islam. Islam teaches brotherhood, universal brotherhood, love and peace, even the name Islam which stands for ‘peace’. I think my brother/sister Majumdar and Ganhao don’t know about Islam and about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the man who taught to be humane and kind towards fellow human beings and inculcated in people the need for brotherhood and love. They (Majumdar and Ganhao) seem to have not read the holy Qur’an, which has the glad tidings from its Creator for the mankind. Unfortunately after 11 September 2001, a lot of people think of Islam when they think of terrorism. Islam exhorts the believers to rise above materialism and indulge in spiritualism.
