AIMMM Condemns Sheikh Ahmed Yasin's Assassination by Israel
New Delhi: Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), in a statement on 23 March condemned the assassination of Hamas spiritual leader, Sheikh Ahmed Yasin. He said: "The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) fully shares the profound grief of the Palestinian people at the willful and planned assassination by Israel of Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, the founder and spiritual guide of the Harkat-al-Mazahemat-al-Islamia (Islamic Resistance Movement), better known as Hamas, on 22 March, 2004. The assassination is not only a crime against the people of Palestine but against the forces of freedom and exposes the real character of Israel not only as an imperialist power in colonial occupation of Arab Palestine, but as a terrorist state.
The AIMMM condemns Israel's barbaric act which will not extinguish the flame of freedom in the hearts of the Palestinian people. The AIMMM offers its sincere condolences to the people and leaders of Palestine and prays for eternal peace to the martyr Sheikh Yasin.
The AIMMM has noted the universal condemnation of this brutal and barbaric act of state and the wave of worldwide outrage and urges the USA - the real power behind Israel - to review its policy of support to Prime Minister Sharon's self-evident objective of slowly squeezing out the Palestinians and incorporating the Occupied Palestinian Territory within Israel, by igniting extremism through its wanton and senseless violence and using Palestinian reaction to block all avenues of peace.
The AIMMM calls upon the Government of India to take the initiative, in consultation with Arab States, to convene an emergency meeting of the NAM to consider the volatile situation in Palestine and propose complete evacuation of the Palestinian Occupied Territory by Israel under UN supervision and international intervention to secure Israel-Palestine border."
