Fatwa
Text of the questionnaire and Mufti Abdul Quddoos Roomi’s fatwa
Question:
What do the ulama say about Muslims who openly express their views in newspapers as follows:
-
Salute the earth;
-
Pay their obeisance to earth by saying Vande
Mataram;
-
No one worships earth more than Muslims in the
whole world;
-
We offer prayers five times a day and kiss the earth;
-
We utter Vande Mataram from the core of our heart;
-
Vande Mataram, the national song, is not against religion;
-
If we treat mother as symbol of Heaven, why not the country?
-
We too treat the country as our mother;
-
There is no fatwa against Vande
Mataram;
-
The earth is our mother

This song, Vande Mataram, is based on shirk (polytheism). I have seen the Urdu translation of their statements. They want to go to Hell of their own accord. We can only pray for their path of righteousness. In the light of religious commands, In the light of religious rules known to us, I think that these people should renew their faith and renew their marriages. But no one can remove anyone’s obstinacy. I pray to Allah to enable all Muslims, through His Prophet, pbuh, to be steadfast to His religion, Islam. Ameen!

Translation of the Urdu translation (below) of Vande Mataram which was distributed among BJP’s Muslim sympathisers in Agra:
Vande Mataram
I salute you, O Motherland
Whose water is good, fruits are good
And whose air is laden with the scent
of sandalwood
This land, mother’s land, is fertile
I salute you, O Motherland
Moonlit nights are soothing to heart
How beautiful are the blossoming flowers
And the cluster of clouds
How sweet are the smiles
And how melodious are your tunes
Shower your blessings on us,
O soothing Motherland
I salute you, O Motherland.
