The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Geneva, Switzerland has conferred its prestigious Norbert-Gerbier Mumm Award for 2005 on
Dr. Gufran Ullah Beig, Sr. Scientist G.I., Indian Institute of Meteorology, Pune, for his paper, "Review of Mesospheric Temperature Trends" (Beig, et.al.) published in Reviews of Geophysics in Dec. 2003. It is the first time that an Indian scientist has received this prestigious award. Dr. Beig has been invited for the award ceremony in Geneva by the WMO, where award will be conferred to him by a Noble Laureate. Dr. Gufran Ullah Beig is a recipient of Young Muslim Scientist Award in physical sciences for 1999 which was conferred on him by The Muslim Association for the Advancement of Science (MAAS). He is a member of MAAS and also one of the members of the Screening Committee for Scientific and Academic Affairs of
