Guru Granth Celebrated

An impressive assembly of spiritual intellectuals celebrated the quad-centennial of the first installation of the Sikh Scripture, the Aadi Guru Granth Sahib, in the Spanish city of Barcelona. Parliament of the World’s Religions chose this venue to hold its 2004 gathering during May 6-14.

Over a hundred Sikh scholars mingled with 8000 other delegates from 75 countries representing over a hundred spiritual and religious traditions. Sikhs took part in broad ranging deliberations on the challenging conditions they are facing within and without Sikh institutions. There were over a dozen of musical presentations of the Sikh holy hymns, several exhibitions of the Sikh history and beliefs, and above all, the Sikhs erected a large replica of their central holy place, Sri Harmander Sahib, located in the Golden City of Amritsar in India. A number of symposia were held on Sikhism including one on Sri Guru Granth Sahib – Quad-centennial Celebration of Interfaith Scripture. (Harbans Lal, Fortworth, USA)
