Prof Najma Mahmood is a short story writer and poetess. Many of her articles and books on literary and cultural topics have been published in both Urdu and English. She taught English language and literature at Women’s College in Aligarh Muslim University. 

Saiyid Hamid: Ke Gum Iss MeiN HaiN Aafaaq is her latest book. The biography is rather an album of Saiyid Hamid’s personality. The authoress has elegantly described Saiyid Hamid's literary, cultural and educational pursuits as well as his activities for the community. She has very well depicted the the charming and illustrious personality of a renowned social figure of our times.

The most important aspect of his mission for which he devoted his life to the community has been his compassion for it and his desire for the reform, welfare and development of the community. Najma Mahmood has highlighted this aspect in the book. Saiyid Hamid's multifarious activities from his days at AMU to Hamdard Education Society have been covered in the book (Shamim Hanfi). «
