RSS’ hand in Haj subsidy abolition
|
Gorakhpur: Senior Congress leader, Diwakar Singh, criticising the central government decision to abolish Haj subsidy, said that Vajpayee government is taking such decisions at the behest of the RSS in order to win Hindu votes and also to injure the feelings of Muslims. He further said that filling up of forms for 2004 Haj had started in June this year and the prospective Hajis had also paid the amounts by cheques as per the rates and rules existing at that time. But the decision to abolish the subsidy [or to increase the fare] was taken by the government suddenly in October, which was one-sided and unjust also. After being pressurised by the RSS it took the ultimate decision of denying subsidy to income-tax payers also.
(Rashtriya Sahara [Urdu], December 10, 2003).
