“Ghalib of Gujarat”

The well-known Gujarati poet and writer from Surat, Dr Raeesh Maniar ( conducted interviews to write about the famous Dawoodi Bohra poet "Mariz". Mariz’s real name was Abbas Abdulali Vasi and he was born in Surat. He started writing ghazals at the tender age of 15. He is popularly known as “Ghalib of Gujarat”. Dr Maniar has recently written a book on him under the title of Mariz: Astitva Ane Vyaktitv, which has been published by Image Publications, Bombay/ Ahmedabad. The book makes an interesting reading about the life of “Mariz” and includes an interpretation of some of his famous ghazals. «
