Muslims threaten to boycott Bukhari
New Delhi: About ten Muslim organisations of Delhi have asked Jama Masjid’s Imam Ahmad Bukhari to withdraw his statement failing which he would be boycotted by them. According to representatives of these organisations, Bukhari’s supporting BJP, which is responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid and massacre of Muslims during Gujarat riots, is tantamount to demeaning Muslim society. Representatives of these [pro-Congress] organisations are Maulana Mohammad Anwar Ali of All India Muslim Mushawarat Council, Mohammad Sajid Rashdi of All India Imam Association, Pyare Mian, chief of All India Minorities Conference, imams of some mosques and dozens of other leaders. Their contention is that there is a feeling of anger among Muslims because of Imam Bukhari’s statement.
Leaders of these organisations made an appeal to people, especially Muslims, to vote for the candidates of secular parties only. The leaders said that if Imam Bukhari did not change his attitude, the people of Old Delhi would also boycott him. They condemned Maulana Jameel Ilyasi, president of All India Imam’s Organisation for supporting BJP. They have accused Ilyasi of misleading the people.
