Imam Bukhari’s relatives join BJP

Kishanganj: During the last Lok Sabha elections BJP’s strength appreciably increased when three close relatives of Imam Ahmad Bukhari of Jama Masjid, his brothers-in-law, Muhammad Anwar Yusuf, Muhammad Javed and Muhammad Taj resigned from Congress and joined BJP along with hundreds of their supporters. They joined BJP in the presence of Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, [the then] union minister and BJP candidate from Kishanganj parliamentary constituency.

It may be noted that in some of his recent statements Bukhari extolled BJP and asked Muslims to join BJP in large numbers to strengthen the hands of prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. While saying all this, he forgot the demolition of Babri Masjid and the massacre of Muslims in Gujarat. In both these cases the involvement of the BJP has been proved. It is the same Imam Bukhari who had earlier delivered fiery speeches at Zakaria Street in Calculta and other places against the BJP. (Azad Hind (Urdu Daily), April 20, 2004).
