MG editor gets death threat, Cyber branch unmoved
MG editor, ever since this publication was started, has been receiving threatening emails and phone calls from various elements including people claiming to be from the police and the union home ministry. Some emails have been published in letters columns while telephone callers were told that such discussion is not possible over the phone and they were invited to MG offices; they never turned up.
In the early hours of 17 May 2004, MG received two emails from a single person who identified himself as “Dharmesh Agravat” (see letters, p. 31). Extreme threatening language, including phrases like “I am enquiring to send a hit squad to your Delhi office as your paper is overwhelmingly anti-Hindu and you are no longer wanted so you are all due to die very soon”. The other email message said, “Leave India immediately as Muslims are trash that are no longer wanted, your lives are not safe in India...Muslims aught to be killed they are a menace to society and to India... we want all muslims and christians dead”..
Same day at 3.30 PM, the two emails with their complete headers, which help in identifying the sender and the route used, were emailed to the Supdt. of Police, Cyber Crime Investigation Cell, Central Bureau of Investigation, 5th Floor, Block No.3, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi - 3 at their email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. But as we go to press in the morning of 25th May, there is no word from the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell which worked with lightning speed when Modi received similar emails.
