AMU girl outsmarts boys
When it comes to sincerity towards studies, girls have always tried to outclass boys. Indeed, the girl from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Shagufta Wahab, has proved just that during the 55th Annual convocation held on 9 March this year. By bagging nine medals, she has become the only student to receive the largest number of medals at an AMU convocation so far.
Shagufta has an illustrious academic record. She has performed brilliantly at the various examinations conducted by the university. In fact, she has emerged at the top in almost all her examinations. Even at the High School examination of the AMU, she stood first and was awarded the Lang Medal for her outstanding performance. Not only this, she was also adjudged as the Best Student of her school and awarded the ‘Papa Mian Padam Bhushan Best Girl Award’. Besides, at the university level she won merit scholarships and various prizes.
Ms. Wahab bagged the medals for obtaining the highest aggregate marks in all professional examinations of the M.B.B.S. course and in different subjects. Amongst the nine medals, two are Gold medals, four are University medals and three of them are Memorial medals respectively.
In the Faculty of Medicine, Shagufta was awarded with ‘Obaid Bin Saif Al-Nasseri Gold Medal’ for achieving highest marks in aggregate in all professional exams while attending to M.B.B.S. Final Prof. (Pt. II) (2002) Exam. During the same ceremony she was bestowed with ‘Dr. H. C. Agarwal Memorial Gold Medal’ for standing first at the M.B.B.S. I-Prof. (1998) Exam in Physiology.
Shagufta has been awarded four University Medals for examinations conducted in the Faculty of Medicine. She received medals for standing first at the M.B.B.S. Final Prof. (Part-I) (2001) Exam in Community Medicine; for standing first at the M.B.B.S. Final Prof. (Part-I) (2001) Exam in Opthalmology; for standing first at the M.B.B.S. II-Prof. (2000) in Forensic Medicine; and, for standing first at the M.B.B.S. I-Prof. (1998) Exam in Anatomy respectively.
Ms. Wahab was also bestowed with three Memorial Medals on the occasion. She was presented with ‘Dr. Hadi Hasan Memorial Medal’ for standing first at the M.B.B.S. Final Prof. (Part-II) (2002) Exam. Two ‘Meghna Krishan Baveja Memorial Medal’s were awarded to her for standing first at the M.B.B.S. I-Prof. (1998) Exams in Anatomy and Physiology.
Shagufta’s father, Abdul Wahab, is currently a Professor in the Department of Economics at AMU. One of her brothers is pursuing M.D. in Medicine at AMU.
