Awards

Sayyad Mo’zuddin Rizvi a teacher of Usmanabad Zila Parishad School was honoured by Maharashtra Urdu Academy with ‘Ideal Teacher ’ award for the year 2002-03 at a function held at Usmanabad. The award, consisting of a commendation certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1000, was presented to him by Dr Maharaj Kishan Kaul, coordinator of Urdu Teaching and Research Centre, Lucknow.

Azim Premji, pioneer of India’s software revolution and chairman of Wipro who is also reputed to be the richest man of India won another laurel when he was selected by a distinguished jury for Business Leader Award at the Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence function held at Mumbai on 14 October. In all, 5 business magnates (including Azim Premji) and 3 business houses were selected for the awards for corporate excellence in different capacities such as Business Leader, Global Indian, Company of the year etc.

UP State Karamchari Sahitya Sansthan honoured Anees Ansari, principal secretary, Panchaiti Raj of UP State with Jai Shankar Prasad Award for 2003-04 for his Ghazal collections ‘Teesray Din Ka Sooraj’ in recognition of his services to Hindi literature. This awards consists of Rs 5000.

Ghalib Award Sub - Committee in its meeting held recently selected the following litterateurs for Ghalib Awards for 2004: Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Ghalib Award for Urdu criticism and research to Prof Waris Alvi (Ahmadabad), Fakruddin Ali Ahmad Ghalib Award for Persian criticism and research to Prof Shamsuddin (Srinagar), Ghalib Award for Urdu prose to Devindar Asar (Delhi), Ghalib Award for Urdu poetry to Baqar Mehndi (Mumbai), Ham Sab Ghalib Award for Urdu drama to Aziz Qureshi (Delhi), Ghalib Award for overall literary services to Prof Sayyad Mohd Aqeel Rizvi (Allahabad) and Ghalib Award for Science to Mohd Khalil (Delhi). These awards consist of Rs 25000 in cash, a medal and commendation certificate each. These awards will be presented on 24 December at a function.

In pursuance of the decision taken by Belgachia Eid Namaz Committee to institute an award for milli and religious services in the memory of Belgachia Jama Masjid’s Imam Late Maulana Mohammad Muneer, the first award is to be given to the Imam of Nakhuda Masjid, Maulana Mohammad Saabir.

Habib Tanweer, famous artiste has been honoured with 'Legends of India Lifetime Achievement Award 2004' by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit for his contribution in the field of theatre. Tanweer was felicitated for promoting traditional folk theatre by effectively combining traditional skills with modern thoughts through this medium.
