Saffron spin

Below is a letter sent by MG editor to the Pioneer and on the right is how it finally appeared in the saffron mouthpiece on 21 September:

Sir,
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi (Pioneer, 16 September) claims that islamonline.net is "pro-al-Qaeda" and "Pakistani" website. BJP should be ashamed of this foot-in-mouth creature who habitually speaks before he thinks and rarely does his homework. Islamonline.net, like Al-Jazeera, is headquartered in Qatar and its media centre is located in Cairo. It has nothing to do with Pakistan or Al-Qaeda. As regards the news about Advani's hand in the plot to kill Jinnah, it was disclosed by the Karachi daily The News on 30 January 2002 in the context of the tit-for-tat Indo-Pakistani lists for the extradition of criminals operating from the soil of the other country. The Pakistani list included LK Advani for his role in a plot ("Shikarpur Colony Conspiracy Case") hatched by 18 persons to kill the governor general of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Once a wanted man in Pakistan, Advani fled to India. This news was picked up by media publications all over the world including the Pioneer on 31 January 2002.
Sincerely,

Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan
