The education department of Delhi government has honoured
Farid Ahmad, secretary of GSTA teachers' union and a social activist, with the state award for his contribution in educational field. He had earlier been honoured with the Indra Award in 2001 also. He received the prestigious award on the occsion of Teacher's Day which was presented to him by Mrs. Shila Dikshit, the chief minister of Delhi in the presence of the education minister of Delhi Arvinder Singh Lovely and other prominent personalities.

Urdu, NAWAZ DEOBANDI with Sadhu Ram Arzoo Saharanpuri Award in recognition of his services to Urdu. UP's minister for Parliamentary affairs and Urban development Azam was the chief guest and Dr. Upadhya presided over the function Nawaz Deobandi, which thanking for this honour said that though Sadhu Ram Arzoo was otherwise a well know poet he is recognised more as a Natiya poet who wrote beautiful Naats in praise of Prophet (SAW).
Qatar's literary organisation of world fame 'Council for the Promotion of Urdu Literature honoured India's famous author and research scholar,
PROF NISAR AHMAD FAROOQUI and Paksitani novelist ABDULLAH HUSAIN with 9th International Award for Promotion of Urdu Literature. This award consisted of Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and a gold medal each. Also the 7th Saleem Jafari International Award consisting of Rs 75000 in cash and a gold medal was given to England based DR. DAVIS MATHEWS for his valuable literary services to Urdu. These awards were presented in Doha capital of Qatar on 16 September when an international mushaira was also held.

DR GUFRAN BEIG, a Pune-based scientist from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meterology has won an award from the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) for his original paper on 'Review on Mesospheric Temperature Trends' published in Reviews of Geophysics. He has been awarded the Norbet Gerbier Mumm Award for 2005, which will be presented to him at Geneva in June next year.
