Attempt to demolish Afzal Khan's tomb foiled
Mumbai: VHP's attempt to demolish the tomb of 17th century Mughal general Afzal Khan was foiled on 12 September by Maharashtra police who had made strict security arrangements to protect the monument. The Mughal general had said he would bring Shivaji, the Maratha ruler, dead or alive to Delhi. On the contrary he was killed by Shivaji. On VHP’s call, its workers and volunteers from neighbouring places were preparing to leave for Partapgarh to demolish the tomb but their vehicles were stopped and confiscated by the police who lathi-charged and arrested hundreds of demontrators at Pratapgarh and other places.
VHP has claimed that 6000 of its volunteers were arrested by the police and said that they are determined to destroy the tomb sooner or later.
