Meerut : Jaagti Aankon ka khwab, a collection of short stories by Dr Aslam Jamshedpuri, head of the department of Urdu at Chaudhry Charan Singh University here was released at the University on 10 September. Well-known Hindi laureate and former director of Door Darshan Kamleshwar participated in the function as the chief guest.
Kamleshwar said that Jamshedpuri has picturised real life in his short stories and they have modern touch inspite of being short. His stories are interesting and touching. He added that Urdu and Hindi have same origin and both the languages were born simultaneously and at the same place. Before 1857 English tried to divide “Hindustani” into two compartments of Urdu and Hindi simply to create rift between Hindus and Muslims. He emphasised the need to bringing the two languages closer to frustrate such attempts.
Presiding over the function, university's vice chancellor Dr Ram Pal Singh said that Dr Aslam Jamshedpuri deserves congratulation for this beautiful collection of short stories. He said that languages are a means of transmission of one's ideas and feelings and that languages that we are talking about are neither Hindi nor Urdu but only Hindustani which is spoken and understood by three- fourths population of the country.«
